A Chinese or Himalayan Gilt and Polychromed Buddhist Mask with Skulls, 19th Century. –
A Chinese or Himalayan gilt and polychromed Buddhist mask, depicting a wrathful deity face. This elaborate ceremonial mask features a prominent third eye, open mouth with fangs, and wide eye apertures. The mask displays an aged sheen with remnants of red and black pigment. Surmounting the forehead are three smaller, carved figures: a central serene, human-like face flanked by two skull-like visages, each with traces of pigment.
