A Chinese Hetian Jade ‘Taotie’ Maskette, Late Qing – Republican Period. –
A Chinese Hetian Jade ‘Taotie’ Maskette. This carved object, likely a pendant or plaque, is crafted from mottled dark green to olive-green jade. The obverse features an intricately carved, stylized anthropomorphic or zoomorphic mask design, strongly evocative of archaic Chinese Taotie motifs, characterized by prominent symmetrical eyes and curvilinear patterns. The reverse is flatter with a somewhat rougher texture and lighter cloudy inclusions.
Approximately 5.5 x 4.3cm
