A Qajar Lacquer Qalamdan Pen Box with Equestrian Hunting Scene and Floral Decoration.
A finely decorated Persian lacquer qalamdan of elongated rectangular form with sliding lid, richly painted in polychrome and gold against a deep black ground. The top panel is adorned with a dynamic equestrian hunting scene, depicting mounted riders in colourful robes pursuing game amidst flowering trees and dense foliage, rendered in vivid tones of red, turquoise, ochre, and soft green. The composition is enclosed within delicate gilt scrollwork borders. The sides are decorated with finely painted floral sprays and blossoming roses, interspersed with small birds, all framed within intricate gold arabesque cartouches. The interior is finished in black lacquer. The underside and borders feature repeating gilt foliate motifs and geometric ornamentation, maintaining a cohesive decorative scheme throughout.
