Abdul Rahman Chughtai (Pakistan, 1897-1975) – "Untitled" (Courtly Couple), Ink and Watercolour on Paper.
Executed in fine line ink with delicate washes of muted colour, the composition depicts a standing male and female figure in flowing, layered garments, shown in close interaction beneath a stylised tree canopy. The figures are rendered with elongated proportions and softly inclined heads, emphasising grace and intimacy through gesture rather than facial expression. Subtle accents of red, ochre, and gold highlight jewellery, textiles, and decorative borders, while the background remains largely uncoloured, defined instead by precise linear drawing. Two cows appear in outline behind the figures, contributing to the pastoral setting. The lower edge of the composition features a patterned hem with repeating geometric motifs, anchoring the figures visually.
