A Near Eastern Bronze Seated Stag Incense Burner, 2nd Millennium BC.
A bronze incense burner modelled as a seated stag, dating to the 2nd millennium BC. The vessel features a rounded bowl set upon the animal’s back, its form thickly encrusted with age-related surface accretions and a mottled green mineral surface. The stag is shown resting on a rectangular base, its head raised and legs tucked beneath the body, with short projecting antlers emerging from the head. The bowl above is shallow with small lug-like protrusions along the rim, and the entire piece displays an appealing rugged, excavated texture consistent with ancient bronze burial.
H: Approximately 11.5cm
Provenance: Property from the estate of a distinguished private collector (deceased); assembled between the 1970s and 2024.
