An Agate Gau Possibly Depicting Ekadashamukha Avalokiteshvara, 20th Century.
A finely carved agate gau plaque depicting a multi-headed and multi-armed Bodhisattva, possibly representing Ekadashamukha Avalokiteshvara. The standing figure rests upon a lotus pedestal, encircled by radiating arms holding various symbolic attributes. The serene faces are arranged in tiers beneath an arched mandorla, framed with scrolling motifs. The reverse displays the natural circular banding of the agate in warm brown and cream tones. This devotional piece likely served as a portable image within a Tibetan Buddhist gau or personal shrine.
