A Chinese Blue & White Islamic-Inscribed Vase, Da Ming Zhengde Nian Zhi Mark.

A Chinese blue and white porcelain vase of elegant baluster form, rising from a spreading foot to a flared neck and domed mouth, flanked by two shaped handles. The body is decorated in deep cobalt blue with scrolling lotus, arabesques, and pointed lappet motifs. Cartouches on each side display Arabic calligraphy, written in a stylised Thuluth-influenced script, echoing the aesthetics produced for export to the Islamic world during the Ming and later Qing periods. The glaze exhibits fine craquelure throughout, adding a soft, aged character to the surface. The base bears a neatly written six-character reign mark: 大明正德年製 (Da Ming Zhengde Nian Zhi), translating to “Made in the Zhengde reign of the Great Ming.” The Zhengde Emperor (1506–1521) was well known for commissioning Islamic-influenced works, due to his documented interest in Islam and foreign cultures.
