Bahadur Shah Zafar Calligraphy Panel, Indian, 19th Century.

A finely executed 19th-century Indian calligraphic panel attributed to Bahadur Shah Zafar, the last Mughal Emperor of India (r. 1837–1857), known also for his refined mastery of poetry and calligraphy. The composition features an elegant tughra-style central inscription rendered in bold black script against a turquoise ground, framed by additional lines of calligraphy above and below. The panel is bordered by delicately painted floral margins in deep blue, enriched with red and gold inner frames that heighten the architectural balance of the work. The reverse bears a S. J. Telléry & Co. exhibition label—Delhi, Calcutta, Bombay, Simla—stating the maker as Bahadur Shah Zafar and describing the piece as a handwritten calligraphy panel.

Approximately 35 x 22cm
