An Indian Tantric Cloth Painting of a Symbolic Palm (Hasta-Lakshana), 19th-20th Century.
An Indian tantric cloth painting depicting an enlarged open hand filled with symbolic motifs and inscriptions. The palm features detailed linework and brightly coloured diagrams, including temples, animals, ritual implements, lotuses, celestial symbols, and Sanskrit/Hindi annotations traditionally associated with tantric cosmology and fortune-reading practices. The fingers are marked with spiral and linear patterns, while the thumb is adorned with decorative bands. Painted in vivid tones of red, yellow, and black on a brown ground, the composition is framed within a wide deep-magenta textile border.
