A Chinese Qur’an Manuscript of Surah Al-Mujādilah, 19th Century.
A Chinese Qur’an manuscript containing a single surah, Surah Al-Mujādilah (سورة المجادلة), written in bold black ink within richly coloured geometric borders. The manuscript opens with a circular illuminated medallion featuring dense black script surrounded by a radiant ring of alternating gold and dark motifs. Each page displays a structured square layout framed by intricate gilt floral bands, blue fret-pattern panels, and delicate black-and-gold foliate trimming. The calligraphy is executed in clear Chinese-style naskh, with occasional red diacritics and ornamental separators. The opening folios include decorative cartouches filled with gold and polychrome designs, and the chapter heading appears in red at the top of the illuminated frame. The verses are enclosed within vivid green and gold rectangular borders filled with latticed and floral patterns. The manuscript is bound in a dark brown, embossed leather cover, featuring central roundels with arabesque calligraphy surrounded by a thick decorated border, with further corner medallions worked in low relief.
