A Tibetan Gilt Bronze Figure of Shakyamuni.
Cast in gilt bronze, this figure of Shakyamuni Buddha is seated in dhyanasana atop a double-lotus base. With the left hand resting in his lap and the right raised in the earth-touching gesture (bhumisparshamudra), the Buddha invokes the earth as witness to his enlightenment. He is draped in a monastic robe that falls in cascading folds over the shoulders.
