A Large Indian Papier-Mâché Qalamdan Pen Case with Gilded Floral and Bird Motifs, 19th Century.
A rectangular Indian papier-mâché pen case, finely decorated with dense gilded floral scrolls across the body and lid. The top surface is adorned with blossoming flowers interspersed with perched birds, while the sides feature continuous bands of stylised floral designs in gold, red, and black. The interior is richly painted with scrolling foliate patterns in gilt on a dark ground, framed with red and yellow borders.
