"Untitled" – SADEQUAIN (1930–1987).

An exceptional calligraphic composition by Sadequain, executed on leather. The bold black inscription, stylised in the form of a fish, is framed by a vivid border of red and blue motifs resembling flames or leaves. Signed in Urdu at the lower centre.

Sadequain was one of Pakistan’s most celebrated modern artists and a master of calligraphy and mural painting. Known for revitalising Islamic calligraphy in contemporary art, he brought poetic and spiritual depth to his distinctive visual style. He painted vast public murals, illustrated the poetry of Ghalib and Iqbal, and received accolades including the Pride of Performance and Sitara-i-Imtiaz. Sadequain’s work remains central to Pakistan’s cultural heritage.
