An Ottoman Talismanic Shirt with Square Kufic Inscriptions, 19th–20th Century.
An Ottoman talismanic shirt featuring meticulously inscribed square Kufic and Naskh scripts in black, red, and cobalt blue inks on a light beige textile ground. Both sides of the shirt are densely filled with Qur’anic verses, protective invocations, and magic squares. Prominent central cartouches are framed by thick borders bearing intricate Arabic script, some rendered in decorative geometric motifs. The hem includes symbolic door-like arches and diamond-shaped seals marked with the name of Allah, intended for spiritual protection and divine favour.
