A Chinese Bronze Tripod Censer with Beast Finial and Archaistic Motifs.
The rounded body of this bronze censer stands on three cabriole legs, each issuing from a stylised animal mask. Two looped handles emerge from the sides, issuing from detailed beast heads. The surface of the body is decorated with archaistic scrollwork centred by a raised emblem motif. The domed, reticulated lid is crowned by a finely cast reclining chimera or dragon-like beast with a long neck and alert expression.
