An Indian Silk Painting of a Caparisoned Elephant, 19th Century.
This Indian silk textile depicts a white ceremonial elephant adorned with lavish ornaments and trappings. The elephant strides to the right across a soft, stippled ground, wearing a richly patterned saddle cloth in shades of olive green, terracotta, and indigo, bordered with floral designs and tassels. Its forehead and ears are decorated with golden elements, and the curved trunk is raised gracefully in motion.
