A Qajar Brass Kashkul Beggar’s Bowl with Human and Animal Motifs.
Of traditional boat form, the surface is densely decorated with a combination of elegant naskh script bands and finely detailed figural medallions. The calligraphic inscriptions encircle the rim and body, while the lower registers are filled with stylised arabesques and scrolling vines enclosing seated human figures and various animals, including hares and gazelles, all surrounded by elegant foliage. The underside of the bowl is similarly adorned with a circular medallion filled with a complex lattice of intertwining figures, flora, and fauna. Two pierced suspension lugs at either end are shaped as openwork motifs.
