A Chinese Carved Wooden Scholar’s Box with Floral and Figural Panels, 19th Century.
A rectangular Chinese wooden box richly carved in high relief. Each side is adorned with intricate latticework and floral scrolls, enclosing cartouches that depict scenes of scholars, attendants, and garden pavilions in deep relief. Ribbons and auspicious motifs such as scrolls and gourds are integrated throughout the background. The hinged lid is similarly carved, showcasing a large central narrative scene surrounded by a floral border.
