A Chinese Lead Hexagonal Canister with Painted Battle Scenes, 19th Century.
A Chinese hexagonal lead canister, each of the six sides inset with vividly painted narrative scenes depicting horseback warriors in combat, archers in wooded landscapes, and figures in architectural settings. The painted vignettes are framed within lobed arch-shaped cartouches surrounded by a raised geometric border. The upper portion of the vessel rises into a cylindrical neck with a domed lid. The underside bears a stamped mark in Chinese characters, possibly indicating the period or origin of the piece.
