An Indian Islamic Steel Dhal Shield with Gilt Calligraphic Inscriptions.
An Indian dhal (shield) richly decorated with gilt Arabic inscriptions. The central medallion bears the Shahada ("La ilaha illallah, Muhammadur Rasulullah") encircled by the names Allah, Muhammad, and the four Rightly Guided Caliphs in thuluth script. Surrounding these are verses of protective Quranic inscriptions, possibly Ayat al-Kursi or Surah Al-Fath, often believed to endow the bearer with divine protection in battle.
