A Japanese Carved Wooden Desk, Meiji Period, Circa 1900.
The desk features a raised cabinet back with deeply carved panels depicting cranes among reeds and auspicious cloud motifs, all framed within rounded compartments. The upper section is crowned with an exuberant openwork carving of phoenixes in flight. The writing surface is bordered with a beaded edge and inset with a lacquered panel. The apron and legs are elaborately pierced and carved with dragons, peonies, and scrolling vines.
