A Kashmiri Papier-Mâché Turban Box, Circa 1870.
This finely painted papier-mâché box from Kashmir is adorned throughout with dense floral motifs in red, gold, and soft green against a dark lacquered background. The domed lid and body are meticulously decorated with scrolling foliage and rosette patterns, bordered by gold friezes. The base features a rich orange ground with intricate hand-painted florals in a starburst formation. The interior is equally lavish, showcasing vivid foliate ornamentation across both halves of the box.
