A Rare Oil Portrait of a Reclining Nude Egyptian Woman by Muhammad Mukhtar Tawfiq al-Attar (Egypt, 1922–2006).
A rare and unique oil painting by Muhammad Mukhtar Tawfiq al-Attar, an artist who abandoned painting at a young age after developing an eye disease (tubular vision) that prevented him from continuing his practice. He subsequently turned to art criticism and went on to become one of the most important contemporary art critics in Egypt.
Al-Attar is represented in the collection of the Egyptian Museum of Modern Art with a single painting, and works by him are virtually unobtainable, making this example exceptionally scarce.
Oil on canvas, signed and dated 1947. The painting has been relined to museum standards.
