An Indo-Persian Brass Astrolabe with Zodiacal Inscriptions, 19th Century.
A finely engraved Indo-Persian brass astrolabe. Both faces of the circular instrument are densely inscribed with concentric bands of Arabic calligraphy, zodiacal symbols, and astronomical notations. The central pierced axis allowed for the fitting of a rotating rete. The top features a scalloped suspension mount, adorned with calligraphy in cartouches. Floral scrollwork and intricate geometric motifs further enrich the design.
