A Terracotta ‘Eye Idol’ in the Style of 3rd Millennium BC Northern Mesopotamia.
A terracotta eye idol featuring the characteristic stylised bands of raised, almond-shaped eyes encircling the body. The creamy, sand-toned surface shows areas of reddish pigmentation and earthen deposits, enhancing the sculptural presence. The idol’s top section displays a prominent row of large incised eyes, mirrored by a second horizontal band at mid-body. The reverse repeats the same decorative scheme with similarly carved ocular motifs. The overall form is block-like with softly rounded edges, consistent with idol types associated with the broader Mesopotamian tradition of symbolic ‘eye figures.’
