A Roman Amethyst Figure of a Nude Youth, 1st–3rd Century AD.
A finely hand-carved Roman figure sculpted from translucent pale-lavender amethyst, depicting a nude youth standing in a relaxed contrapposto pose. The figure is shown with both hands raised behind the head, emphasising the graceful curvature of the torso and hips. The upper body displays softer purplish tones while the lower section transitions to a clearer crystal, characteristic of natural amethyst banding. The facial features are delicately indicated, framed by stylised, deeply incised hair arranged in thick, wavy locks. The reverse mirrors the same anatomical detailing, including the shoulders, spine line, and legs.
