Lot 406: A Chinese Bronze Gilt Head of a Bodhisattva...
A Chinese Bronze Gilt Head of a Bodhisattva (Possibly Guanyin), 18th–19th Century.
The bronze head finely modelled with a serene and contemplative expression, the face softly rounded with downcast eyes, gently arched brows, and a subtle closed smile. The figure is adorned with elongated earlobes and wears an elaborate coiffure arranged in stylised waves, secured beneath an ornate crown. The crown is centred with a small seated Buddhist figure, a feature traditionally associated with bodhisattva imagery and often linked to Guanyin iconography. The surface retains areas of gilt over bronze, now interspersed with natural wear and surface variation consistent with age.
H: Approximately 26.5cm
Provenance: Private collection from a distinguished British gentleman.
