A Chinese Gilt-Bronze Dragon Seal –
A Chinese gilt-bronze dragon seal, characterized by a substantial square base and an elaborate finial depicting a coiled, five-clawed dragon. The dragon is intricately detailed with scales, a flowing mane, and an open mouth, indicative of a high-ranking or imperial Chinese style. The four vertical sides of the base are extensively carved with multiple columns of highly stylized Chinese characters, consistent with seal script (zhuanshu), forming decorative inscriptions. The gilt-bronze material displays a rich, dark green and reddish-brown patina.
H: Approximately 8.5cm
Provenance: Private collection based in West London.
