A Pair of Japanese Bronze Vases, Meiji Period, 18th-19th Century. –
A pair of Japanese Meiji Period bronze vases, each with a substantial cylindrical body adorned with finely cast, high-relief figural and landscape scenes. These scenes depict robed figures interacting within a natural setting, possibly illustrating narratives or historical events. The vases feature a rich, dark patination with subtle gold accents, highlighting details on clothing, banners, and foliage. The highly ornate handles are cast as intricate, gnarled pine branches with dense needle clusters, extending upwards and outwards from the body to the rim. Each vase rests on a flaring foot with decorative banding.
