A Qajar Islamic Calligraphic Composition Depicting Zulfiqar and Sacred Names.
A richly ornamented Qajar-period Islamic devotional composition, centred within an oval medallion and framed by finely detailed floral and marbled borders. The central field presents an architectural mihrab-like structure flanked by the bifurcated sword Zulfiqar, symbolically associated with Imam Ali, rendered in bold red tones. Suspended beneath the arch is a stylised hanging lamp motif, reinforcing the sacred architectural imagery.
Dominating the lower register is large black calligraphy in an expressive hand, while circular cartouches above and below contain sacred names including “Allah” and invocations relating to Imam Ali and other revered figures. The surrounding spandrels are decorated with delicate floral arabesques in pink, blue, and gold against a warm ground, characteristic of Qajar manuscript and devotional aesthetics.
