A Manuscript of Zīj Ṭanṭāwī (The Tables of Revolving Astronomy for Knowing the Movements of the Planets by Night and Day), by Muḥammad ibn Muṣṭafā al-Azharī, Known as Ṭanṭāwī, Dated 1290 AH.
An Arabic manuscript of Zīj Ṭanṭāwī, a work on practical astronomy comprising astronomical tables for calculating the movements of the planets by day and night, composed by Muḥammad ibn Muṣṭafā al-Azharī, known as Ṭanṭāwī, and dated 1290 AH (1873–74 AD).
The volume is bound in a dark red leather binding with a central stamped medallion and corner devices within ruled borders. The manuscript is written in black ink in a clear hand, with headings, section titles, and table frameworks executed in red. The opening folio contains the title written in red ink, identifying the work as a set of astronomical tables (zīj) for determining planetary motion.
The text consists primarily of carefully ruled tabular layouts, extending across double-page spreads. The tables are organised in red-lined grids with column headings in red and numerical and lettered entries in black, reflecting traditional Islamic astronomical computation methods.
