An Ottoman Illuminated Firman with Tughra, Signed on the Reverse, 19th-20th Century.
A finely executed Ottoman firman on paper, crowned with a striking polychrome and gilt tughra set within a pointed arch panel filled with scrolling floral arabesques in blue, gold, and delicate red accents. The imperial cipher is boldly rendered in gold against a richly ornamented ground, reflecting the formal grandeur associated with Ottoman court documents.
Beneath the tughra, the text is arranged in elegant sweeping lines of fine script, alternating in black, red, and gold ink. The calligraphy flows diagonally across the page in characteristic Ottoman style, punctuated by small circular gilt roundels that enhance the visual rhythm of the composition. The refined balance between ornament and script creates a highly decorative yet authoritative document.
