Maqbool Fida Husain (1915–2011), Modernist Composition with Islamic Motifs.
A vibrant modernist composition attributed to Maqbool Fida Husain, executed in bold, flat planes of saturated colour. The painting is structured around a deep blue ground, animated with symbolic Islamic motifs including a crescent and star, a stylised minaret, an open Qur’an on a stand, and graphic calligraphic forms rendered in striking yellow and red.
The composition balances architectural and spiritual imagery with Husain’s characteristic simplified forms and strong linear accents. A circular golden disc containing stylised script hovers near the upper register, while vertical elements such as the minaret and column create structural rhythm within the pictorial field. The palette of cobalt blue, emerald green, ochre, and terracotta reinforces the symbolic and devotional atmosphere of the work.
