An Indian Bronze Inkwell with Peacock Finial, 19th Century.
Of elongated rectangular form, the inkwell cast in bronze with a shallow oil reservoir and fitted hinged cover. The tapering body is raised on a stepped base and terminates in a sculptural peacock finial, the bird depicted standing upright with stylised wings and a fanned tail decorated with circular eye motifs.
The opposing end forms a scrolling handle, modelled with sinuous curves and terminating in a stylised animal head. The surfaces display fine linear tooling and subtle textural variation consistent with hand casting.
L: Approximately 18.5cm
