A French Gilt Bronze and Porcelain Double Inkwell Stand with Cherub, 19th Century.
A decorative French gilt bronze desk stand featuring twin porcelain inkwells mounted on an ornate Rococo-style base. The composition is centred by a suspended gilt bronze cherub holding a quill, framed within scrolling supports surmounted by a looped handle and shell cresting. Each inkwell is fitted with a hinged gilt bronze lid topped by a bird finial, above turquoise-blue domed covers and hand-painted porcelain bodies decorated with delicate floral garlands. The shaped base is richly cast with scrolling acanthus motifs and incorporates a central porcelain medallion depicting a cherub in a pastoral scene, bordered in blue.
