This Indian miniature painting is executed in opaque watercolour and gold on paper. The composition features a tall, standing male figure, likely a prince or deity, distinguished by an aureole and a sword tucked into his waistband. He is depicted in profile, wearing a yellow jama, and gestures with one hand towards a smaller female figure who stands before him in a respectful posture with hands raised. The scene is set within a stylised architectural pavilion characterised by cusped arches and patterned floor terraces, rendered in a palette of yellow, orange, and grey. The work is framed by decorative horizontal bands at the top and bottom featuring a repetitive leaf motif. The style, with its elongated figures and fine linear detailing, is characteristic of the Rajasthani school, possibly from the Bikaner or Bundi regions.

Approximately 21.7 x 14.9cm

Condition report:

The paper exhibits age-related toning and minor foxing across the surface. There are noticeable losses, creasing, and wear to the deckled edges of the sheet, most significant at the bottom centre and right-hand edge. The colours remain generally stable with some minor rubbing consistent with age.
