Lot 362: AN INDIAN FOLK STYLE BRONZE FIGURE OF NANDI THE BULL, 19TH/EARLY 20TH CENTURY.
An Indian bronze figure depicting Nandi, the sacred humped bull and mount (vahana) of Lord Shiva. The bull is presented in a traditional recumbent posture, featuring a prominent hump and forward-facing ears. The surface is decorated with incised ritual trappings, including a garlanded collar and a body harness, typical of regional temple-style icons from South or Western India. The heavy casting and simplified, rounded forms suggest a piece intended for domestic or small shrine devotion.
H: Approximately 6.5cm
Condition report:
Fair to good antique condition. There is a prominent vertical fissure or casting crack located on the left shoulder and neck. The surface shows generalised wear, minor pitting, and oxidation consistent with its age and use. Significant white and pinkish ritual powder residue (vibhuti and kumkum) remains in the crevices. The base exhibits some unevenness.
