This Indian miniature painting is executed in opaque watercolour and gold on paper. The composition features a standing male figure in profile, portrayed with a dark beard and a white turban. He is attired in a long white tunic accented with red buttons, an orange and gold-striped shawl, and an ornate scabbard hanging from his waist. To the left is a white architectural structure suggesting a palace or fort, while the right side is dominated by a large, stylized tree with multi-coloured foliage against a dark teal background. Small floral sprigs are painted at the figure’s feet. The artwork is framed by a narrow yellow inner border and a wide, dark blue outer border with faint metallic flecks. The style is consistent with 18th or 19th-century Deccani or provincial Mughal traditions.
Approximately 30.5 x 20.8cm
Condition report:
The artwork is in fair condition with visible wear and minor pigment loss across the painted surface. There is noticeable creasing and wear along the edges and borders. The paper support exhibits general age-related toning and some minor staining, particularly within the outer blue border.
