An Indian miniature painting executed in opaque watercolour on paper depicting the deity Krishna as Venugopala. The blue-skinned figure is shown in profile, seated in a cross-legged position upon a stylized pink and white lotus blossom while playing a golden flute. The deity wears a vibrant yellow dhoti and is adorned with strings of pearls, armlets, and an elaborate crown topped with peacock feathers. The central figure is set against a dark green ground, positioned beneath a decorative blue and white wavy band representing the sky. The image is framed by an inner white and yellow ruled line and a broad outer terracotta red border.

Approximately 11.8 x 13.2cm

Condition report:

There is a notable loss to the paper in the upper left corner. Minor wear, scuffing, and pigment loss are visible along the outer red borders and edges. General age-related toning is present across the paper support. The central painted area remains largely intact and well-preserved.
