Lot 211: A CHINESE RETICULATED PALE CELADON NEPHRITE JADE PHOENIX AND FLORAL BANGLE.
A wide circular bangle carved from translucent pale celadon nephrite jade. The stone exhibits natural cloudy white mottling and characteristic russet or brownish-yellow inclusions which have been integrated into the overall decorative scheme. The piece features intricate high-relief reticulated or openwork carving. The decorative programme consists of a continuous frieze depicting long-tailed phoenixes (fenghuang) amidst a dense ground of scrolling foliage and blossoms, with one side featuring a finely rendered five-petaled flower. The carving is deeply undercut with the interior wall following the contours of the pierced motifs. This style of reticulated jade carving is characteristic of late Qing Dynasty to Republic period craftsmanship.
D: Approximately 7.5cm
Condition report:
The bangle is in good overall condition. There are no obvious cracks, chips, or repairs visible. The natural russet inclusions and internal fissures are inherent to the nephrite stone and are not considered damage. Typical minor irregularities are present in the depth and finish of the interior pierced sections, consistent with hand-carved jade of this period.
