A carved nephrite jade pendant featuring a stylised beast face or animal mask, executed in an archaistic style inspired by Neolithic Chinese cultures. The obverse is carved in relief with incised detailing, depicting prominent scrolled horns at the upper corners and a central lozenge motif on the forehead. The large, rectangular eyes are detailed with internal line work, situated above a nose and mouth area decorated with chevron patterns, with the base divided into two small projecting feet. The material is a pale celadon green to off-white nephrite jade with significant russet brown and dark grey inclusions and areas of surface calcification.
