An Islamic ceramic chess piece, most likely representing a rook, of architectural form with a broad tapering body surmounted by a rounded knop. Covered overall in a deep blue glaze, the body is moulded with geometric and architectural motifs, including horizontal bands, angular divisions and circular details around the lower register. The surface displays areas of glaze loss, earthen deposits, abrasions and wear consistent with age and use.
