A pair of 19th-century Islamic ceramic chess pawns, each of compact arched form with a rounded top and flat base. Covered in a deep cobalt-blue glaze, the fronts and backs are moulded in relief with stylised symmetrical foliate and scrolling motifs. The surfaces display extensive craquelure, areas of glaze wear and earthen deposits.
