A pair of Islamic ceramic chess pieces of domed form, each covered in a dark glaze with extensive craquelure. The fronts are moulded in relief with a central almond-shaped motif framed by symmetrical scrolling foliate decoration, with further ornamental motifs above. The reverse of each is decorated with a series of elongated vertical arched panels. Surface wear, deposits and areas of glaze loss throughout.
