Lot 174: A CHINESE BRONZE “SWAN” EWER FOR THE ISLAMIC MARKET, QING DYNASTY.
A Chinese bronze ewer modelled in the form of a swan or water bird, the rounded body raised upon two webbed feet, with the elongated neck and head forming the spout. Fitted with a tall arched swing handle and a domed cover with knop finial, the rear formed with an upswept stylised tail. The body is detailed with raised ribs and the bird’s head with incised features and inset-style eyes. The underside bears a four-character seal mark within a square reserve. The unusual zoomorphic form reflects Chinese metalwork produced for export and the Islamic market.
