A pair of 19th-century Islamic carved red stone chess pieces, representing the King and Queen. Each of substantial architectural form, carved in relief with scrolling foliate and palmette motifs, one further decorated with a recessed figural composition beneath an arched surround. The surfaces retain a rich red colour with areas of earthen encrustation, wear and patination consistent with age.
