The work is executed in watercolour and ink on aged, possibly hand-laid paper, depicting various Islamic astronomical diagrams of celestial spheres. The scientific subject matter features nine primary circular diagrams rendered in washes of blue, pink, yellow, and green, each labelled with Arabic calligraphic script identifying planetary bodies and celestial models, including the Sun (al-Shams), the Moon (al-Qamar), and the Zodiac (al-Buruj).
Approximately 69 x 35cm
Condition report:
The paper exhibits significant overall toning and browning, with visible water staining, scattered foxing, and a notable area of paper loss at the bottom right corner. There is evidence of light-sensitivity with some fading to the watercolour pigments. The frame shows minor surface wear and small chips to the upper edge.
