A watercolour on paper titled Asoka, attributed to the Indian artist M. F. Husain. The composition is rendered in a bold, expressionist style featuring a profile figure in red against a vibrant green rectangular ground on the left. The figure holds a large, grey-toned sword that extends horizontally across the frame, piercing through several stylized and fragmented animal forms, predominantly horses, in shades of yellow, orange, and red. The background consists of flat, saturated fields of crimson red. The work is signed Husain in black ink in the upper right quadrant, consisting of a vertical line crossed by a horizontal stroke followed by the name. The print is set within a black mat and housed in a wooden frame with a gold-tone inner fillet.

Approximately 38 x 30.5cm

Condition report:

The print appears to be in good condition within the frame, showing no visible signs of foxing, moisture damage, or fading. The black mat and glass are intact. The wooden frame has a significant chip and loss of finish along the centre of the bottom edge (photo 1). No other major defects are visible from the provided photographs.
