An Ottoman-style devotional textile worked in gilt and coloured metal threads on a red ground, arranged as an architectural composition incorporating extensive Arabic calligraphy. The upper section is decorated with numerous circular calligraphic medallions, including the names of Allah, the Prophet Muhammad and other sacred names, surrounded by scrolling floral and foliate ornament.
The central field contains further bands and panels of Arabic inscriptions beneath stylised hanging mosque-lamp motifs, framed by columns and elaborate borders. The lower section is embellished with a tughra-style emblem within a floral wreath, crossed ceremonial elements and additional Ottoman-inspired ornament.
