Maqbool Fida Husain (Indian, 1915-2011), Warrior Tiger. This work is executed in gouache and bodycolour on canvas. The composition depicts a dynamic, stylised tiger-like figure brandishing a scimitar against a vibrant background. The piece is rendered in a bold Modernist style, utilising a palette of red, blue, and yellow fields defined by thick black outlines. Celestial and star-like motifs are featured in the upper register. The work is signed Husain and dated 25.XI.004 in black paint to the lower right corner. The application of opaque pigments suggests a mixed technique characteristic of the artist’s later period.
